Isle of Man Maritime Group Donate to Kathleen & May Trust

Thursday, September 15, 2016

The Isle of Man Maritime Group has donated £500.00 to the Kathleen and May Trust, thanking them for their exemplary support during the Group’s most recent networking event held in Liverpool at this year’s International Festival of Business (IFB).

The Isle of Man Maritime Group is a cluster of entrepreneurial and forward thinking maritime organisations who collaborate to promote the Island as a maritime centre of excellence. The Group enjoys a close relationship with the Kathleen and May and its custodians, Cindy and Jeff Grice, having held its inaugural ‘Wine on the Waves’ event on-board the vessel in 2014.

Built in 1900, the Kathleen & May tall ship is Britain’s last working three mast wooden hull schooner. Incredibly, the vessel was an active trading ship until 1961 and its elaborate history includes serving in both World Wars, carrying coal, gunpowder and other vital resources.

The invitation-only event featured a delicious hog roast, fine wines and a choice of cocktails, as well as live Manx music from Birlinn Jiarg. In attendance were 70 key contacts from areas of shipping as diverse as investment, financial services, ship building, maritime equipment, maritime technology and maritime legal services. In addition to successfully raising awareness of the Isle of Man’s maritime industry, the event also resulted in a new member joining the Group, sub surface engineering company, Hughes.

Members taking part in the event included: the Isle of Man Ship Registry, Estera, PDMS Maritime, MHG Insurance, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement and the IOM Shipping Association.

The Group is already in the early stages of planning its next event during London International Shipping Week next year, with the prestigious Tower Bridge already booked for the occasion. For further information, or to find out more about Group membership, please contact enquires@iom-maritime.com.
