Isle of Man Maritime Group thanks and supports local Sea Cadets with donation
Monday, March 14, 2016
Following on from the Isle of Man Maritime Group’s hugely successful ‘Nautical by Nature’ event at London International Shipping Week (LISW) last year, Bruce McGregor (IOM Maritime Group, Chairman) was delighted to present the Isle of Man Sea Cadet’s Officer in Charge A/Lt Lee Clarke-Vorster with a £500 donation on behalf of the Group at their Thursday evening training.
The ‘Nautical by Nature’ event, held at the historic Trinity House, promoted the Isle of Man as a centre of maritime excellence and the services that Group members offer. The evening attracted over 130 decision makers from the global maritime industry who were attending London International Shipping Week.
The five cadets in attendance stewarded throughout the evening, welcoming guests and registering them upon entry. Manx actors Chris and Howard Caine also wrote and performed a set of unique sketches that brought to life the Isle of Man’s maritime heritage, whilst the IOM’s award winning Celtic band, Barrule performed its fresh take on traditional and contemporary Manx music.
Commenting on the cadet’s contribution to the evening, Bruce said, “When planning this event we wanted to provide our guests with an enjoyable, entertaining and memorable evening. The cadets really helped the evening run smoothly and created a superb maritime atmosphere, alongside the entertainment from the Manx actors and Manx band.”
Bruce added, “The Sea Cadets are an important route into Merchant Shipping and the Merchant Navy, so interactions between them and industry through involvement in these kinds of events provides an invaluable experience. The guests were extremely complimentary about all the cadets, and the Group is delighted to be supporting them through this donation.”
The Group’s members who took part in ‘Nautical by Nature’ were Affinity Management Services; Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (Isle of Man); Döhle (IOM) Group of Companies; Isle of Man Ship Registry; Isle of Man Shipping Association; Isle of Man Superyacht Forum; KPMG; MHG Insurance Brokers; PDMS Maritime and Simcocks, with a special thanks to InterManager for their engagement with the cadets and for liaising with them for the event organisation.
The Group is currently looking forward to holding more exciting events over the next year and beyond. If you would like any more details about the Isle of Man Maritime group please contact email@example.com.
